30 Strange Spoons: Measuring an Unhomed Time

$95.00

30 Strange Spoons: Measuring an Unhomed Time is a new artist’s book created in collaboration with acclaimed Turkish writer Ece Temelkuran, author of How to Lose Your Country: the 7 Steps from Democracy to Fascism and Together: A Manifesto Against a Heartless World.

The book combines new writing by Ece, excerpts from her most recent book, Nation of Strangers (2026), interspersed with images of the spoons she has stolen during her a decade in exile. As Ece puts it, “These stolen coffee spoons are proof of my life, evidence that I have lived the last ten years. They are also the timeline for the mutating homeless self from a state of being shrunken with fear to a self that learns how to begin living after being unhomed.” Ece’s writing runs along the bottom of each page accompanied by silhouettes of the 30 spoons, printed in a lightly tinted varnish, creating a visual exploration of “our unhomed time” in a physical material manifestation.

The book is 48 pages in accordion format, measuring 4 1/2” x 7” (11.5×17.78cm), unfoldsing to 18 feet when fully extended. All of the text and images are letterpress printed in two passes on Gmund Cotton New Grey text, with a hot-foil stamped cover on Gmund Colors Stone, a letterpress printed title wrap on Lokta hand-made paper, and is encased in a protective foil-stamped enclosure.

NOTE:30 Strange Spoons: Measuring an Unhomed Time is on view at Betterpress Lab, Rome from March 21st - April 14, 2026, as part of a collaborative installation project of the spoons and new work by Ece. 30 Strange Spoons and the newly published Italian translation of Nation of Strangers (Straineri Come Te ) are available for purchase and pickup at Betterpress Studio, va Portuense 189 through April 14.
